Site Selected for New Trenton School

Download this image Nineteen new or replacement schools are currently advancing through the Province's school capital process. , The Province has selected the site for a new school in Trenton, Pictou County. Replacing Trenton Elementary and Trenton Middle schools, the new pre-primary to Grade 8 school will be built on land next to the Trenton Minor Sports Community Centre and Trenton Park. It will accommodate about 300 students. “This is exciting news for Trenton,” said Brendan Maguire, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development. “Thank you to the community members, families and educators who provided feedback during the process. Your input is essential as we work together to build a school that supports student achievement and well-being and the future of the town.” The departments of Public Works and Education and Early Childhood Development worked on the site selection, which included detailed evaluations of land options and community feedback. The site best meets program needs, offers safe access for students and buses, and provides opportunities to share community infrastructure. The new school will now advance to the design phase, which will include a steering team with parents, community members and school staff who will provide input. Quotes: “This is great news for our town and an announcement that many of our residents have been looking forward to for a long time. A new school will be a significant asset for Trenton and ensure our students have a great place to learn and play.” — Alec Dove, Mayor, Town of Trenton “We are thrilled to see this important milestone reached for Trenton’s new school. The community’s dedication and input have been invaluable throughout this process, and we look forward to continuing this journey together.” — Karyn Cooling, Regional Execu
